“I wanted to come to a place where I could be my own person and not be a burden to my family. So Parkview was the place I chose.” – Patricia Ferrell, resident of Parkview in Frisco

MEET PATRICIA FERRELL, A MOTHER OF FIVE WHO HAS LOVED EVERY PLACE SHE’S EVER LIVED.
You can learn a lot from someone who has been in your shoes. Their honest insight can help you navigate your way to the place that’s right for you, regardless of which community you choose. (All quotes contained in this post are excerpts from an interview conducted with Patricia Ferrell on Friday, November 4th, 2016. To read the full, un-edited transcript, please click here.)

Born in Lamar, Colorado, Patricia moved to Southern California when she was 15. Her high school class size went from 72 to 500 but somehow among all those classmates, she discovered the man of her dreams. They married at 18 and raised five children as they moved around with the Air Force and later settled into mutual careers in law enforcement and banking. Their idyllic retirement life in Washington state was cut short when Patricia’s husband became gravely ill and passed away, leaving her with a 3,000 square foot home and issues with her back. With encouragement from her children, Patricia made the choice to relocate to Parkview in Frisco at the age of 75. She plans to enjoy her new lifestyle to the fullest.

WHY PUT OFF WHAT YOU CAN PLAN
The biggest mistake people make is to put off planning their own best future. Maybe they believe if you don’t think about the possibility of change, everything will stay the same. Well, change is inevitable and if you don’t plan ahead, you could find yourself in a real predicament, like Patricia Ferrell’s own parents did. They did not plan ahead and their children had to step in. If you’re lucky enough to have children who care about you, why ever put them in such a position if you don’t have to? Take the time to explore your options and plan your best future now, when the decisions are still yours to make. “I just felt that it would be easier if I made the decision on my own to do this move and I’m so grateful I did.” – Patricia Ferrell

SILVER LININGS
Every cloud has a silver lining in Patricia’s world. She moved to Parkview sight unseen, based on her daughter’s recommendation and a dozen reassuring phone conversations with Parkview representatives. She felt right at home from the get go. She enjoys her time with Dakota, her Yorkie, dining with friends and partaking in community events and outings. “You know I’ve loved every place I’ve lived but I think Frisco is wonderful. It’s growing. It’s amazing…. It’s like being on a new adventure for me. And so Frisco, Texas, I stepped off the plane and I said, ‘I’m home.’” – Patricia Ferrell

WARM AND WELCOMING
Patricia wasted no time getting acquainted and is amazed how all the associates, from the Executive Director to the Concierge, Drivers and Dining Room Servers, know every resident by name. “I just absolutely adore it here. It’s beautiful, the food for the most part is good, the staff is wonderful and the people here are just darling. I feel right at home and I’ve gotten busy with my life here playing bingo, nickels and tai chi. All of the things that they offer here are wonderful and I’m going to try a little bit of everything.” – Patricia Ferrell
