If you want to continue enjoying the good life tomorrow, make every effort today to find the retirement community that’s right for you.
“So I am venturing out. There’s something else that I just joined and I can’t even remember now. I’m busy, I’m really busy.” – Marilyn Bixler, resident of Parkview in Frisco
MEET MARILYN BIXLER, WHO TRADED A LIFESTYLE SHE LOVED FOR ONE SHE LOVES EVEN MORE.
You can learn a lot from someone who has been in your shoes. Their honest insight can help you navigate your way to the place that’s right for you, regardless of which community you choose. (All quotes contained in this post are excerpts from an interview conducted with Marilyn Bixler on Friday, January 29th, 2016. To read the full, un-edited transcript, please click here.)
Marilyn majored in music in college and married her high school sweetheart. After raising five kids together, she started an exciting career as an executive secretary at the Texas Sports Hall of Fame and later at what is now known as Bank of America. Eventually, she was named President and Investment Officer, overseeing 19 men and three women on the trading floor. In retirement, Marilyn took up Bridge and became a Stephen Minister at her church in Alpharetta, Georgia. When she longed to be closer to family in September of 2015, she moved from Georgia to Parkview in Frisco. Now she’s enjoying her family, dining with friends, Bridge, book club, her two little dogs and so much more.
On this road called life, you have a lot more living to do. Do you know how to avoid the potholes? What turns might you need to make and when? Let us help you create your own roadmap. Today’s retirees have more living options than ever and exploring them ahead of time can be a lot of fun. The sooner you start your research, the better prepared you’ll be to enjoy a future built entirely around choices – yours. “There are two questions that each senior needs to ask themselves and the two questions are, ‘When do I make this move?’ and ‘Where do I go when I move?’ Those are the two pertinent questions.” – Marilyn Bixler
UPLIFTING AND POSITIVE
In Georgia, Marilyn learned that no two retirement communities are alike. Her friend moved out of one after two weeks because the atmosphere there was so negative. By comparison, Marilyn finds Parkview to be in a class by itself. “So I find it just the opposite here, very, very uplifting, very, very positive. The people here, to me, they are just the cream of the crop of humanity. So I just feel like the people at Parkview are hand-picked. The management is so willing to just bend over backwards to make it pleasant to live here.” – Marilyn Bixler
PETS LOVE PARKVIEW
As much as Marilyn and her family loved Parkview at first sight, she wasn’t coming if she couldn’t bring her beloved dogs. Fortunately for animal lovers like Marilyn, Parkview welcomes pets like Carly and Cody with open arms. “Well, that was the other thing. I have two dogs. I have a Yorkie and I have a Bichon and they’re my family…and I said, ‘I can’t leave my dogs.’ Well, of course Susan Taylor said, ‘Oh yes…you can bring your dogs.’ So they’re right here.” – Marilyn Bixler
