TAKE THE BULL BY THE HORNS
Moving to the right retirement community at the right time can change your life for the better.
“And the people that I’ve talked to join us in saying that it’s an important decision and no matter which side you come down on, it is vital that you satisfy yourself and plan ahead.” – Ed Morrison, resident of Parkview in Frisco
MEET ED MORRISON AND JUDY PATTON, TWO OF THE BRIGHTEST LIGHTS IN FRISCO.
You can learn a lot from someone who has been in your shoes. Their honest insight can help you navigate your way to the place that’s right for you, regardless of which community you choose. (All quotes contained in this post are excerpts from an interview conducted with Ed Morrison and Judy Patton on Monday, November 2nd, 2015. To read the full, un-edited transcript, please click here.)
You can’t help but love this couple. Exciting jobs took them around the world. With seven children and 15 grandchildren, Judy says there’s nothing left on her bucket list. That’s not to say their life is over. Not by a long shot. Today they both enjoy life at Parkview in Frisco, where Ed insists every meal is a happy social occasion, full of conversation and laughter, not to mention great food. He’s learning French and enjoys word games. They’re both involved on committees. Their residence has all the privacy they could ever want with services, amenities and fun within easy reach.
If you hold the notion that moving to a retirement community is like putting yourself out to pasture, it’s time to get with the program. Times have changed and sure as the Texas sun rises and shines, so do folks like Ed and Judy, who thrive in a bustling environment of freedom, fun and friendship. There are countless reasons to get up and enjoy every day. Why be late to the party? The earlier you begin to explore your options, the sooner you can start enjoying all the days ahead. “I’d say you want to start early, before you have to. Look as broadly about as you can, make your mind up right away from a financial standpoint are you going to buy in or rent.” – Ed Morrison
SO LONG SLEEPY TOWN
Raised in Austin, Judy retired as Executive Assistant to the Chairman of Chase Bank. Ed’s an adopted Texan and loves it. He spent 30 years with Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, NY. Upon retirement, they enjoyed life on their daughter and son-in-law’s ranch north of Dallas. When traveling two hours for healthcare and nightlife began to lose its luster, they knew it was time for a change. After researching all their options, they moved to Parkview in Frisco in 2013. “Quite frankly after ten years on a ranch, I was ready for loud music and bright lights.” – Judy Patton
DINING ROOM TEST
Before making their final decision, Judy and Ed checked out a half dozen places in the Dallas area, always visiting at mealtime – not to score a free meal but rather to check out the crowd. “There is a lively crowd here and you see smiles on faces and you hear people talking constantly in the dining room. So that was the unit of measure that we would suggest to anyone, is the old dining room test. And it was on that basis that Parkview stood out head and shoulders.” – Ed Morrison
